General Motors is preparing for the launch of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. The Camaro was first introduced to the market in 1967; the vehicle was a favorite among sports car enthusiasts through model year 2003 when the Camaro and its sister vehicle, the Pontiac Firebird, were removed from GM’s production lineup.

The Camaro made its return as the new and improved Bumblebee in the 2007 hit movie, Transformers. Since that time, car lovers across the nation have been asking the question, “When can I buy one?” The wait is almost over and General Motors has released details about the all-new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.

Camaro Engine Basics

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro will be available in three different models, the LS, LT and the SS. A GM facility in Ontario, Canada manufactures each of the four passenger, rear wheel drive models. The LS and LT feature a 3.6L, V6 engine with 304 base horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.

Keeping with Camaro tradition, the SS features a 6.2L eight-cylinder engine with 426 base horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.

Heated Seats Are Just One of the Interior Options

Although the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro has been completely redesigned since the last production model was made for model year 2003, designers have looked to the classic Camaro for design inspiration. The instrument panel, while modern, is reminiscent of the classic.

“Cloth upholstery is standard and leather-appointed seats are included on 2LT and 2SS models. Four-way manual adjustment including fore/aft and up/down on the driver seat and two-way adjustment on the passenger seat is standard. Heated, leather-trimmed seats with driver six-way power adjustment are optional.” Source: GM Media Online

10 Exterior Color Choices Available

There are ten different color choices available for the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro including Victory Red, Rally Yellow, Aqua Blue Metallic and Inferno Orange Metallic. As with the interior, designers looked to the original Camaro in creating the exterior features. One glance at the vehicle reminds any sports enthusiast of the original 1967 Chevy Camaro.

Top of the Line Air Bags and Other Safety Features

Unlike the original Camaro, the 2010 model is loaded with the latest in safety features. Dual-stage air bags, seat-mounted side-impact air bags, head curtain air bags and a front passenger seat detection system, protect the driver and passengers.

Optional Equipment Including Upgraded Wheels and Tires

In addition to the standard features, which differ between the three models, there is a wide variety of optional upgrades from which to choose.

An RS package is available on the LT and SS models. The RS package comes with 20-inch wheels, HID headlamps, distinct taillights and a rear spoiler (LT model only). Other upgrades include TAPshift controls, a sunroof, premium sound and dealer-installed 21” wheels and tires.

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro will soon be available from Chevy dealerships around the nation. Despite a shaky economy, the Camaro is expected to post strong sales numbers and dealerships are already accepting orders.
